Harriet Tubman was an 
American abolitionist and political activist who escaped slavery and then risked her life to lead dozens of enslaved people to freedom via the Underground Railroad. She also served as a spy and scout for the Union Army during the Civil War, becoming a symbol of courage and resistance.
